Susan Demchak is a Michigan born artist who moved to New England in 1998. She exhibits regularly and has worked on various private commissions. Her specialty in watercolor can be traced to her University of Michigan experience abroad in Florence, Italy. Two years after, in 1995, she graduated cum laude with a BFA, from the Ann Arbor campus. She joined UM alumni painters and traveled to the British Isles twice before making many more trips on her own to Europe and across the United States.
Susan has juggled scientific and creative energies all her life. She held a dual career by working in technology while exhibiting her paintings. This practice elevated her cultural awareness, work ethic, and self-discipline. It was her persistent need to make things that drove her to leave her career as a user-centered design specialist in 2001. At that time, she refocused. She currently shows regularly in Boston, Upstate New York, and Rochester, MI. She has been awarded two artist residences in Maine and in France. She teaches at the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park School, as well as given demonstrations at local schools and at gallery events. During this time collectors of her work has grown in numbers and now include gallery owners, professors, architects and photographers.
Susan has also contributed to the community by volunteering at Massachusettes General Hospital: leading children in the healing benefits of art; New Mission Pilot High School (Boston Public Schools) creating an art program and integrating art into traditional classroom assignments, ARTWALK New York: appearing online at Sothebys.com alongside Louise Bourgeois, Portrait Society of Michigan, WGBH auction, and Friends of the Museum, MFA, Ann Arbor MI.
Her energy attracts audiences and she can encourage artistic professionals. She is represented at Soprafina Gallery, Boston, MA, Cary Gallery, Rochester, MI and online at www.susandemchak.com
